We will visit one of the architectural jewels of Oxford. The Sheldonian Theatre was erected between 1664 and 1669, designed by Sir Christopher Wren; it is the ceremonial hall of the University also used for concerts and lectures. Its impressive painted ceiling is the work of Robert Streater who was the Sergeant painter to the King. For those who wish to climb the stairs; The eight-sided Cupola in the centre of the roof with large windows on all sides provide stunning views across central Oxford. An History of the University of Oxford guided tour is arranged entitled: ‘The Sheldonian Theatre in Context’.
