The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House and Galleries in Northampton and Haddonstone Show Gardens

17 April 2019

First we went to 78 Derngate which was owned by Bassett Loake, the engineer whose company made model trains.  He asked Charles Rennie Mackintosh to design the house in his style.

At the house we divided into groups and were shown around by very knowledgeable guides.  Not only was the interior design unique but the house was very advanced for its time (1920ís) and was one of the first to have hot and cold running water and, flush toilets!

In the afternoon we went to Haddonstone Show Gardens.  Haddonstone make the concrete statutes, vases, plaques etc., sold in many garden centres and their gardens are used to show their statutes in various very attractive settings.

The weather was very good and it was a very enjoyable day.
